The days ponderings...

Ive scouted around the internet trying to find something interesting to comment on, either I'm looking in the wrong place or Thursdays aren't a good day for excitement and debauchery! 'cos i couldn't find a single piece. Nevermind though, 'cos the news on everyones lips around the Cardiff area today was the glorious weather and also the boundaries I broke down with new experimental dance moves while out on the town last night - More on that later!

The sun was shining, the birds were tweeting and the Bees were a-buzzin'! This fortunately made the day perfect for lying on grass, chatting with friends and pondering life's great mysteries....I will now proceed to share with you some interesting things I thought about today.

1. There is rarely a more awkward moment than walking past a group of lads playing football and the ball comes towards you. The sudden panic mixed with pressure and a perculiar kind of stage fright can sometimes be too much. Do you leave it? Casually and confidently kick it back? or run after it, fumble a bit then  heroically do the most girlish throw-back infront of the most masculine blokes?....well, whatever you do, youve only got seconds to decide.

3. True story!
2.  Why do bumble bees get bigger every year? For those that don't know, a bumble bee technically defies the laws of gravity and aerodynamics, it's wing size and span is too small in ratio to its body, it shouldnt be able to fly! But this hasn't stopped them growing to the size of a small garden bird! theyre also Stupid!

3. Am I the only one who feels a sense of relief when you think back to the night before and you can't remember doing anything TOO embarrasing? I'll admit, I said some stupid stuff last night, but nothing I couldn't laugh off with my friends. I remember really walking the line between innovative and embarrasment with some of my dance moves, but while intoxicated is the only time anyone will ever see it! I also didnt drop a drink, didnt spill food down my shirt and didn't accidently stare at another man's willy in the toilet leading to some kind of awkward lavatorial conversation.....so all in all, success!

4. Why do I fancy everyone?.....I have no explanation for this.

5. Why does the thought of leaving my Cardiff friends behind for Easter make me feel so sad? It's only three weeks and I'll see them again soon. Everyday someone else seems to be going and it's just slowly making me want to go home too...don't get me wrong I'm looking forward to going home and seeing the family but stil....I'm gonna miss everyone!

Cheers, everyone!

Death Cab for Cutie and Glasvegas

The biggest hype story (in my life) on the internet last night was the countdown to the streaming of Death Cab for Cutie's video. The idea was brilliant - it would be a unique, insight into the recording of their new music video for You are a Tourist, streamed live as and when they were recording it, oh and did I mention it was going to be done in one take?! Reducing the boring stops and starts of regular video production and  also appealing to that part of the human nature that will go out of its way to watch someone F**k it UP!

I watched the whole thing live (kinda hoping they'd mess it up), well, switched between that and my usual nighttime internet activity ..... urm, chatting to my friends on facebook obviously. I'll admit some of the lead up was a bit dull! But they pulled off the recording and the song isn't too shabby either.

It seemed to be quite a bit deal and the magazines and blogging sites on twitter were going mad for it!
It's good to see a band like Death Cab for Cutie, a band that's been around for a good 10 years now, still doing something innovative like this. It's what the music fans want to see and it's exciting and creative ideas likle this that the music industry needs.

You can watch the new video here

Oasis? Really?

 Glasvegas

The next thing keeping me entertained this morning as I contemplate the days activities, is the new Glasvegas album. They got called "The next Oasis" when they first came onto the scene a few years ago, which was absolute shit, 'cos they're scottish, and..Oh yeah, they sound nothing like Oasis. They did manage to shift a shit ton of albums in the first few weeks though, so Kudos. However, I didn't really get into them, they sounded like Jesus and Mary chain rip offs, which did not sit    well with the Big Dawg (yeah, i said it).

This new album Euphoric///Heartbreak\\\, however is actually pretty good. It's  got a wicked-cool title which sums up the general attitude and feel of the album. The songwriting's better than the last, not as raw but still delivered with personality and passion. Check it oot! (thats a Scottish accent).

17 years since Kurt Cobains Death....

Yep, 17 years since this silly bugger killed himself (or so they say, Ive heard things *ahem, Courtney*). But with Mr Cobain being responsible for the rise and success of Grunge, The rise and success of Dave Grohl (alright not completely, but he helped) and the rise and success of matted hair and checked shirts (one of my favourite looks) it would seem rude not to dedicate this post to him.

Here's and Image of him looking all smiley for us to remember him by.

"I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not. " Kurt Cobain

What a guy! R.I.P

Procrastination is such a wonderful thing...(pardon the changes in font, I can't fix that for some reason)

The end of year deadlines are approaching and with it the soul destroying task of organisation! This made 10 times worst by the fact that I'm going home in a week to lounge around in Cornwall for three weeks, drinking cider and eating pasties (the stereotypes are true). Of course, this means that the chance of me doing work while in the comfort of my family home is quite unlikely. The sensible part of my brain is trying to organise its time and work into managable task that I can complete over the next week in order to lighten my work load over the Easter break...However, the other side of my brain has decided to google "procrastination" in order to reassure itself that its a common thing that happens to everyone...turns out it happens to some pretty smart people too.

So here's a nice list of my favourite quotes about procrastination:

The sooner I fall behind, the more time I have to catch up.  ~Author Unknown

If it weren't for the last minute, I wouldn't get anything done.  ~Author Unknown

Procrastination is something best put off until tomorrow.  ~Gerald Vaughan

Never put off until tomorrow what you can do the day after tomorrow.  ~Mark Twain

You may delay, but time will not.  ~Benjamin Franklin <- This was just to add some political power to my blog! It's a pretty lousy quote.

Funnily enough, by the time I finished reading the page of quotes, typing this post up and checking/admiring it, I'd procrastinated for another half an hour.....but yknow what they say:

Procrastination is like masturbation.  At first it feels good, but in the end you're only screwing yourself.

Foo Fighters get leaked and Elton John gets nasty!

Theres a couple of things keeping me entertained on this glorious Cardiff morning and no the thought of stepping foot into University on a Saturday isn't one of them!

The first, and in no particular order, is the new Foo Fighters album. There's nothing that quite like that feeling when you get hold of an album before it's out in the shops. However, the novelty is fading as that seems to be how I get all my albums these days. So last night (about 3am) I downloaded the new Foo Fighters album Wasting Light, thinking I was onto another sure winner and I'm not shamed to admit, I felt pretty good about myself . But then I wake up this morning to see the album's been leaked publically with everyone from the guardian to the NME writting about it and everyone and there mums owning it. So my smug grin had seriously been wiped from my face, only momentarily though as as soon as I started to play the album I relaised it's fuckin' awesome!

Something did catch my eye as I gawped at the above story on the NME site. It's quite a title aswell "Elton John slams Kings of leon" - Oooh, who wouldn't read on? Turns out, my initial dreams of some kind of horrendous, camp V southern, sumo-type wresting match in which The rocket man takes on all four of the Tennessee Christians wasn't true! Is it worth explaining what actually happened after I've just put that image in your head?......

Messy and exciting consequences brought about by a previously secret situation becoming public.

I'm hoping that this new blog will eventually contain more than this <<<

A crudely made, cut and paste, paint-job depicting the famous saying "When the shit hits the fan" (or in this case lands neatly beside it). Instead I hope it will be regularly filled with my humble views on emerging music news, both fun and serious.

Actually, keeping it limited to just music news wouldnt be any fun at all! We live in a crazy world that recklessly tosses strange and wonderful news and creations into our lives day by day and what would be the point of living if we weren't able to cringe at the disgusting, laugh at the shocking and revel in the extraordinary. All the while judging...behind the safety of our computer screens.

This isnt just a crudely made picture, its a metaphor for the modern age. The shit has already hit the fan, people. I'm just going to stand here and explain what a mess it's made.
